Fête de la Chanson 10: Semi-Final Allocation

Hej! The submission period has closed and 30 songs have been sent to compete in the 10th Fête de la Chanson, held in Jönköping, Sweden. The first official proceeding is the allocation draw, which took place in the Sofia Church in the middle of town.

The host broadcaster opened the draw with a short teaser of the opening act for the grand final!

Anyway, onto the events. This edition, it was determined that there will be two semi-finals, one with 15 participants and one with 14. It was randomly determined that the first semi-final would have 15 participants and the second 14.

Then, the 29 songs competing in the semi-finals were arranged in pots. To do this, the songs were alphabetized, and then assigned a number, 1-4. This was repeated until every song had a number, determining its pot.

Finally, the semi-finals were arranged. In semi-final one, it was determined that the first half would have eight countries and the second seven. Then, the countries were drawn into semi-final halves, one country from each pot at a time.

The running order draw has also been completed, but its results are being withheld until the show to increase the excitement.

And that’s it from Jönköping! Check back tomorrow for the official start of the edition.

  1. Updates:
    – The recaps are in progress and will be up today, therefore opening the edition officially! Unless you’d all prefer to do a one-by-one reveal on Saturday (the earliest I can do one), everything will be posted today.
    – Regarding the split of 14 and 15 countries in the semi-finals. This is the only instance where a semi-final of 15 won’t have 10 qualifiers. It’s unfair to have different amounts of qualifiers, so there’ll be 8 from each one, making a grand final of 17. Sorry for not having made this clear (I didn’t even realize it until it was pointed out, tbh).
    – There was something else but I can’t remember what. Anyway, can’t wait to start the edition!

  2. Just a quick notice.

I did a quick update to my own rules based on the idea of uneven semis, so if anybody is interested in how uneven semis would play out in my edition, just read there.
