En Sang til Agnes (Danish NF – FdlC 5)

Welcome to “En sang til Agnes” the procedure through which the Danish song for FDLC 5 will be selected!

As the title of the National Final suggests (for those who don’t understand Danish, “En sang til Agnes” means “A song for Agnes”), our Danish representative has been internally selected and is no other than Agnes Obel.

Agnes is a 34 years old Danish singer/songwriter. She writes, plays, sings, records and produces all her material herself. When at work, Agnes creates her own world, or as she calls it, a bubble or bell jar, to make her music. Once inside (or should that be outside?), she’s no longer conscious of what’s going on. This is the mystery of her modus operandi, something she cannot explain. Which simply adds to the ethereal quality of her music. Agnes has so far released two studio albums: Philarmonics (4 October 2010) and Aventine (30 September 2013).

After hours of consideration and of several listenings, the Danish organizers managed to shortlist 3 songs. However, we were unable to decide all on our own which one to send in the end. That’s where your precious help should come in handy.

Songs

Song 1: “Fuel to Fire”

Song 2: “The Curse”

Song 3: “Riverside”

  1. Which now means that I will have to be the one breaking the tie… With all honesty I am going to vote EXACTLY as I would have ranked these 3 songs before this procedure began in first place!

  2. In the meanwhile you can still all voice your opinion about which song should win and argue about it!

  3. Sweden can offer to break the tie tomorrow if you like, however we understand if we are too late and you want to announce a winner tonight

  4. Just go with “the curse” already…
Or else we shall join and get our revenge for messing with us whole night!!!

    • Why didn’t you vote in time?😦 With your votes, the result would have been perfect.🙂

Btw, who would have thought that you and me would rank 3 song exactly the same way?🙂

      • I need to work tomorrow too. Today was the last day of my Xmas holidays.😦 Luckily, Jan 6th is one of the countless bank holidays we have here in Ba-Wü. All other federal states but Bavaria have less bank holidays.🙂

      • How did you lot manage that? I know something about Alsace in France having more than the rest of France and I think the 3 non english constituents of the UK get an extra day for their saints day as well, not sure for 100 tho

      • Ba-Wü is 50 % Catholic and 50 % Protestant, and thus we get all Christian holidays here. Btw, we have almost 10 % Muslims too. Time to get the Muslim holidays too.🙂

      • Not anti Islamic, but starving myself for a month doesnt really seem like a good time to me, but oh well each to their own.

      • My Muslim friends here don’t do Ramadan. They drink alcohol and eat pork too. They are living proof that you can have a hell of a time while Ramadan is on.🙂

I am no believer either but love Xmas nevertheless: friends, family, presents, candles and delicious food. Nothing wrong with that.🙂

      • Lol we have a Muslim neighbour like that.

My mum accidentally invited them over for breakfast and a cup of tea during ramadan and the husband was quick to say no we can’t eat its ramadam, as soon as the husband left for work the wife came over and said “is the offer of breakfast still open, after all you cant beat a good BACON sandwich”🙂

      • And good luck with your exams!

Keep studying, mate, because that is the only road to eternal bliss.🙂 (And don’t forget the Contiinent when studying …😉🙂 …)

  5. So …
The song that gets the 3rd place in “En sang til Agnes” for FdlC 5 is…..
    The Curse.
It is a very instant (not as instant as Riverside though) and well crafted tune but I feel like it gets boring after several listenings. I really wish that David, Dino. Togravus and Mermaid will forgive me but it is the song out of the three that feels less “Donnie” right now despite how much I appreciate it!

  6. The runner up in “En Sang til Agnes” is…
    Riverside!
I loved this one instantly when I first listened to it a couple of years ago and still do. I just don’t feel like sending it right now… Maybe back then. Besides it’s Agnes biggest hit (14.000.000 views) and I have already stated many times before that I don’t support big hits in our cozy contest. On the contrary, I really enjoy discovering new gems Sorry Avat, Shevek, Guitar and Alex

    • Me and the Angel are both disappointed at having been conned into voting for a fixed national final. Our good hearts and trustworthy souls were taken advantage of. Lol

      • Fuel to Fire was already winning before you came up to vote😛
Let’s just say you made things more intense and helped to create a little bit more of suspense😛

      • The HoD already knew who was going to win before the process started. This was a charade.

This is exactly the kind of thing I was warning my neighbor’s Finland about. You can’t trust the Danes.

Finland I hope you are taking notes here. Be more like Estonia and less like Denmark.

      • Look who’s talking?
The one that gave his 12 p to the song ranking only 3rd in the Finnish NF…
        That’s what I call tactical voting😛

      • Denmark, you never cease to amaze me. Minutes after fixing a NF, you sling mud at the 1,3 million Estonians without any remorse.

Denmark taking advantage of tiny, helpless Estonia.

  7. And the winner is “The Curse” because we included Swedes votes at the last minute!!!

P.S. This is mistake it is under Xello (Davids) name in Gravatar, here Is acutally Donnie without a doubt😀

    • Those thing happen all the time… I think in the next post it will be all okay Donnie :p
Toggie, I think this is common mistake made by gravatar and we should all forgive them because of that😀

  8. Which means that the song that won “En sang til Agnes” and will represent Denmark in Lyon is…
    Fuel to Fire!!!
It was the song I was thinking of sending internally before coming up with the idea of a NF! I know I am taking a risk here, many people have already called it boring but in my opinion it isn’t! It is the song that speaks mostly to my heart out of the three! It just needs more than a few listenings but it ages GREAT! BEST ART clip out of the 3 as well.
I hope I won’t regret my choice and at least people who voted it as their winner (Oxi, Dimitris, Tecku and Niclas) will support me😛

      • To get what exactly?
        2 points from you?
        Kidding…
“Karma karma” is definitely a song that suits this NF🙂

        Like

      • Your song is called Karma and it was just by tough luck you missed the deadline for the voting.
Had you been on time for voting, The Curse would have been crowned the winner.
Maybe I will pay all this in the end😛

    • “Fuel to the Fire” is a great song and had the best video clip. Slovakia couldn’t even afford one video clip …😦😉

      Like

      • Clips don’t matter in the end if songs speak to the heart!
And the Slovakian song is beautiful imo!

        Like

      • Thank you, Donnie.🙂

But I think that video clips matter a lot (we live in a visual age after all …). And that is the precise reason why I hesitated to enter “Sivot”. Well, we will see how it will work out in the end.🙂

    • “a Danish-German bond”

Where exactly does that leave me? Well, I have never been very German. I hate doing the Kehrwoche f. e.😦

      Like

      • What unites Danes and Germans is their mutual love for sausages and Fachwerkhäuser. If that doesn’t include you, you should seek another cultural community (the wine and cheese loving France f.e. which is quite logical for someone living in Württemberg).🙂

        Like

      • I don’t like sausages (except the one I had in Rhodes in September last year) but I love Fachwerkhäuser.🙂

I take the best of all cultures in order to cobble together my Toggie paradise.🙂

      • A place where the weather is always sunny, 35 degrees, Duino Elegies make up the constitution and “Quand tu reviendras” is the eternal soundtrack?😉

        Like

      • Not the eternal soundtrack but the anthem.😉🙂 But the Duineser Elegien as constitution is a fantastic idea!

I think that I could come up with one thing to add from every country I have been to.🙂

  9. Yayyy! well done Denmark and Agnes (and Donnie lol😉 ).
At last a fav of mine wins a NF😀
But as I said before, any of the three songs could do great in FdlC.
    Good luck Denmark!

What a NF it has been! We ET/FdlC people rule supreme!😀

    Good night guys!

PS: Good luck with your exams, Max.
PS: Happy name day to me😛😀

  10. Well Sweden was too late to vote, but we had hoped we could at least influence our neighbours.

Also just seen in unrelated news that the oresund bridge has been deemed structurally unstable by the Swedish Health and Safety authority and King Christer has ordered the bridge be taken town.

I really appreaciate it for staying tonight with us despite your heavy program!

Same Difference want you to know how much this means to them.

They really want to win FDLC and they’ve never had a dream come true before.

    • I kind of agree but all 3 songs were great imo. It was a difficult decision. It showed from your results as well! If you follow the National Final, you will understand…

      • I did follow it (after it ended though) and since you made the decision and said you did not choose “Riverside” because its the big hit from Agnes, I made the above statement😛

  11. Congrats to the winner! I’ve had a ridiculous day, so I haven’t heard it yet (bad contest manager) but I have updated the article with the results. The songs have 240, 220, and 200 points because I made Donnie’s vote as the jury count the same as the “televote” (Each song had 120 points, so Donnie’s favorite got 120 points, second 100, third 80). Good luck Denmark!

    • I was in desperate need of a 13th voter. I tried to approach you but in vain😛
Btw, since 12 people voted and could have given 12×12= 144 points max to the winner, shouldn’t the jury winner get 144 points, the jury runner up 12×10 = 120 and the jury’s last 12×8 = 96?
